Italian passports (in Italian: Passaporto Italiana) are issued to Italian citizens for the purpose of international travel. Every Italian citizen is also a citizen of the European Union. The passport, along with the national identity card allows for free rights of movement and residence in any of the states of the European Union and European Economic Area.

New biometric passports have been available since May 2010. The Italian passport chip includes the holder’s photo, name, sex, date of birth, nationality, passport number, and passport expiry date.
